Developing a functioning Drupal website for personal blogging can be an easy and rewarding endeavor. Thanks to Acquia’s stack installer for Windows, MAMP, and WAMP stacks (like xampp) the Drupal development cycle can be managed completely on a local Windows or Apple computer with very little effort.
But once websites move from the kiddie pool of shared hosting into the dark waters of fault tolerant, high traffic VPS or dedicated servers, the development process becomes infinitely more complex. At some point, all Drupal developers need to consider Linux, version control, and staged development.
This presentation will compare the advantages and disadvantages of Windows vs. Linux development environments. We’ll look at the latest Drupal tools like Drush, Mercury, Subversion, Webenabled and others that can help to ease the transition. We’ll look at ways to combine Windows and Linux environments to get the best of both worlds.
If you are a beginner or intermediate Drupal developer considering a move to large scale websites, this presentation is for you.
